So long, Syracuse.
Season two of THE DETOUR will feature TV’s most down-on-their-luck family starting their lives over in New York City.
“THE DETOUR is a metaphor for life,” TBS programming boss Kevin Reilly tells me. “It’s not just a metaphor for being on the road.
Season one of the irreverent comedy saw the Parker family embark on a road trip from upstate New York to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Along the way, Nate Parker (Jason Jones), wife Robin (Natalie Zea) and tween children Jared (Liam Carroll) and Delilah (Ashley Gerasimovich) encountered a series of unexpected, but hysterical circumstances.
Season two promises to be even more outrageous.
“It’s full of fun twists and surprises,” Reilly says. “It’s really the same kind of comedy of errors with a very simple premise with the family trying to do one thing and then things going sideways every way you can imagine.”
Production resumes August 16.
“During the first season, they interview the dad a lot,” Carroll teases. “This time they are sort of interviewing the mom and showing her side of the story.”
THE DETOUR is based on the real life vacation experiences of creator and star Jones and his wife, Samantha Bee.
Going forward, “I think it’s just about keeping people on their toes,” Reilly says. “It’s going to reset every season with some large premise that then plays out.”
THE DETOUR returns in late 2016 on TBS.
