A Nashville sportscaster has been fired from his job for paying tribute to Prince.
Dan Phillips was canned by Fox affiliate WZTV for incorporating lyrics from the music icon’s most popular songs into his April 21 broadcast. The segment aired just hours after the PURPLE RAIN singer was found dead in his Minneapolis area compound.
“First of all, I want to thank everyone for the kind words, comments and positive feedback on this tribute I did to Prince last week. It really means a lot,” Phillips told viewers in an April 29 post on his personal Facebook page.
“Unfortunately, there were apparently some viewers, as well as management at the station, who did not feel the same way. They felt I was insensitive. And as a result, I was terminated today.”
