In the 60 second clip, TV’s former “Prince of Darkness” is wheeled into a dark room, bound and wearing a face mask similar to the one worn by Anthony Hopkins in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS.
“Is all this really necessary?” he asks. “I don’t actually bite.”
“That’s not what we heard,” Mandel shoots back.
Cowell — who is also the creator and executive producer of the AGT — is returning to American television for the first time in nearly three years.
He was last seen judging on his short-lived Fox singing competition, THE X FACTOR.
Cowell rose to fame as one of the three original judges on AMERICAN IDOL and is credited for helping discover such acts as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson.
AMERICA’S GOT TALENT is open to any act of any age.
Previous winners include Las Vegas resident ventriloquist Terry Fator and tween singing sensation Bianca Ryan.
