It’s official! Joelle “JoJo Fletcher” is the next Bachelorette.
JoJo — who was left “brokenhearted” when Ben Higgins proposed to Lauren Bushnell in last night’s season finale — was officially revealed during last night’s AFTER THE FINAL ROSE special on ABC.
“She is a woman who the entire country fell in love with and I know that you’re all hoping that she is able to fall in love again,” host Chris Harrison announced. “So I would like to please welcome our new Bachelorette: JoJo!”
It looked for a while like the job might go to second runner up Caila Quinn, but apparently there was some kind of last minute switcheroo…
Quinn, who is filipino, had reportedly even filmed an intro for the series, but was shunned after fans took to JoJo’s storyline.
Many media outlets also assumed she had the gig after recently ousted ABC president Paul Lee promised to mix things up a bit beginning this summer.
“I’d be very surprised if ‘The Bachelorette’ in the summer [of 2016] isn’t diverse,” he told reporters at the TCA press tour in January. “I think that’s likely.”
A release from the network states: “With her family’s support, an open heart and a new perspective on the possibilities of finding true love, Jo Jo will embark on finding her ‘unicorn’ – her once-in-a-lifetime love…Will she face the unpredictable heartache of falling in love with more than one man? All she is sure of is that she found love once with Ben on The Bachelor and feels sure that this second time will be her charm, and wants everyone to come along for the ride.”
THE BACHELORETTE premieres May 23 on ABC.
