‘American Idol’ Finalists: We’re Not Gay!

"You don’t want to read the comments and the blogs...but you do."

Two AMERICAN IDOL finalists won’t be coming out of the closet — because they are both straight!

Dalton Rapattoni and Avalon Young — who are among the final eight contestants this season — admit they both continue to deflect rumors about their sexuality on social media.

“I am kind of a very polarizing guy,” Dalton tells TheTVPage.com.  “I will read a lot of homophobic slurs going on online.  I am down with the gays, but I am not gay.”

“They assume I am too,” Avalon adds.  “Neither of us are.”

Dalton says he is not sure where the misunderstanding began.

“I know I hug [fellow finalist] Trent [Harmon] a lot, but we’re just buddies,” he laughs.

“But it definitely gets in your head and as much as you want to not read it, you are drawn to it.”

Last week, Dalton, 20, earned enough of America’s votes to advance to the next round.

Avalon, 21, was forced to sing for survival and narrowly edged out eliminated acts Gianna Isabella and Olivia Rox.

“I knew that my performance last week was not America’s favorite,” she says. “You don’t want to read the comments and the blogs…but you do.  It happens the comments are like, “We love you.  We love you.  But this week just wasn’t your week.”

Both acts will perform again as two more singers face elimination on Thursday night.

AMERICAN IDOL airs on Fox.
