NBC Announces ‘Hairspray’ Musical, ‘Friends’ Reunion at TCA

Bob Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, dropped a bunch of announcements during this morning’s semi-annual meeting with TV writers in Pasadena, California.

Joined on stage by Jennifer Salke (President, NBC Entertainment) and Paul Telegdy (President, Alternative Programming), he revealed:

  • NBC will air a musical version of HAIRSPRAY in December 2016. The live event will again be produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. No cast has been announced.
  • CELEBRITY APPRENTICE is currently casting and will begin production this spring. Air date could be as early as fall 2016.
  • Jimmy Fallon will bring THE TONIGHT SHOW to Los Angeles for one week beginning February 15, 2016.
  • The cast of FRIENDSJennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer.— will all participate in a prime time special honoring legendary TV director James Burrows (CHEERS, WILL& GRACE, MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW). “I’m hoping that all six of them will be there in the same room at the same time,” Greenblatt said. “I don’t know, logistically, if we can pull that off.”
  • LATE NIGHT WITH SETH MEYERS has been extended through 2021.
