The headline-grabbing star of LAGUNA BEACH and THE HILLS, who famously battled drug and alcohol addiction at the height of his TV fame will appear in a new unscripted series about the road to recovery.
“That is the only way I was ever going to go back [to television],” he tells TheTVPage.com.
The program, he says, is “an accurate portrayal of addiction” and “accurately sheds light on a positive element as opposed to glorifying the negativity like “Intervention” does.”
“You see a lot of these show that highlight the downfalls and stuff. We have to show people what life looks like in recovery.”
Wahler says he is under contract with the production company and is prohibited from revealing too many specifics just yet.
“What I can say is that it is based around showing the reality of what we face, the epidemic we are up against it. It is scary. It is based on the true facts.”
Wahler also says he has no plans to return to any other form of acting or televised entertainment.
“I feel like I found my love and my passion through that,” he admits.
“I am glad that it happened the way he did. But [working in recovery] is what I want to do now. It is more of a passion for me. 18 out of my 24 family members suffer with addiction. Seeing what it has done, I want to be an advocate.” And he is — last week, Wahler opened a ten bed sober living residence (ironically) in Laguna Beach, California.
“I have been so blessed in my life that I have found something I really love doing,” he says.
