Chaka Khan was the first celebrity of the season to be eliminated from DANCING WITH THE STARS.
The R&B legend and pro-partner Keo Motsepe earned just 13 points out of a possible 30 from the judges with their first performance last week. Unfortunately, viewer votes weren’t enough to keep them in the competition.
“I am so happy to have met everybody,” the singer said when host Tom Bergeron called her name. “I made great friends here. I feel like I did such a disservice [to my partner]. He is such fabulous dancer.”
Monday night’s “Hometown Glory” episode featured a show-stopping salsa from Alexa PenaVega and partner Mark Ballas. The couple nabbed the evening’s highest score from the judges (24). “You set this house on fire,” Carrie Ann Inaba exclaimed.
Last week’s co-champs Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough earned the highest score of the night (25).
Other celebrities were not as successful. Jockey Victor Espinosa and partner Karina Smirnoff struggled ended up with only 17 points. “It was like no other jive I have seen before,” judge Bruno Tonioli said. “I don’t know how to judge it, but I had a laugh.”
Even Backstreet Boy Nick Carter had a momentary setback when he slipped while performing a jive dance to “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.” He immediately kicked off his glitter-encrusted shoes and continues the routine, later insisting “Those things happen and the show must go on.”
Other celebrities competing on the current season of DANCING WITH THE STARS include: singer Andy Grammer, social media standout Hayes Grier and talk show host Tamar Braxton.
A second celebrity will be given his walking papers tomorrow night.
