No one saw this coming!
Julie Chen revealed a bombshell family secret this afternoon on THE TALK — explaining how her paternal grandmother was disgraced by her son (Julie’s father) and daughter-in-law (Julie’s mom) for bearing three daughters but no sons.
In the emotional segment, Julie explains that not bearing a male child was considered a disgrace in her Chinese culture and revealed for the first time the secret plan her grandmother concocted to rectify what she considered to be the family shame.
“My grandmother convinced my dad’s youngest brother, who is 15 years younger than my dad, to give up his first born son, Chris, to my parents to raise as their own son and as my younger brother,” she said. “All so that the family shame could be lifted.”

THE TALK airs weekday afternoons on CBS.
