Alan Thicke:
Son Robin Making ‘Splended Recovery’ After Lawsuit, Divorce

“He had the kind of year that we all have sooner or later"

Robin Thicke is doing “great” and rebounding from a tough year of legal setbacks.

“He is making a splendid recovery,” his father, actor Alan Thicke, tells me.

“He has got three songs on the charts now.  One is really exploding — a duet with Nicki Minaj.”

In March, the 37 year-old “Blurred Lines” singer — and co-defendant Pharrell Williams —  lost a high profile copyright infringement lawsuit and were ordered to pay more than $7 million to the estate of late singer Marvin Gaye.

The following week, he was granted a divorce from his wife, Paula Patton.  The pair had dated since age 14.

“He had the kind of year that we all have sooner or later,” the GROWING PAINS star says.

“I think between the divorce and a huge lawsuit, that is still being appealed, those are two pretty tough things to happen in one year.”

But, Thicke points out, his son’s fortunes could be a lot worse.

“I got divorced and cancelled on the same day,” he remembers.

“So he can never catch up to me.   THICKE OF THE NIGHT and my divorce happened the same day — before lunch!  I got hit pretty well.”

It is unclear if Robin will appear on the second season of his dad’s Pop TV reality series, UNUSUALLY THICKE.

“Pop is being very generous with us in terms of experimenting and having a little bit of fun and pushing the envelope a little,” Alan says, adding that one more year of TV might be all he can handle.

“We will be happy to get through season three.  Then let me retire and live off of everybody else’s royalties.”
