‘Kimmy Schmidt’: Ellie Kemper Wants A Talk Show

"I wouldn’t want to make my guests uncomfortable"

Ellie wants to be the next Ellen.

Ellie Kemper — fresh off a mid-summer guest hosting stint on TODAY — is now quietly lobbying for her own daytime show.

“A talk show to me seems like it would be an amazing thing,” she told me Tuesday at a media event in Beverly Hills

“It would be a regular job, with good, civilized hours.  You would be able to talk to people, have conversations with people.  And you could have comedy in there.”

Ellie — star of the Emmy nominated Netflix comedy UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT — already knows exactly what her dream show would look like.

“I don’t think it would be investigative journalism and I wouldn’t want to make my guests uncomfortable,” she reveals.

“I think that it would be a morning talk show-type vibe — more like a Kelly Ripa or Ellen than David Letterman.  Even though David Letterman is the greatest talk show host there ever was.”

Ellie, 35, says she wouldn’t want her show’s content to be “too upsetting.”

“I don’t think we would be talking about politics or religion,” she says.

“[But] I am also talking about this talk show like it is happening.  It won’t be happening for years.”

UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT is currently streaming on Netflix.
