Jimmy Fallon returned to THE TONIGHT SHOW on Monday and shared the gruesome story behind a freak accident that nearly led to amputation of a finger.
“I tripped and fell in my kitchen on a braided rug that my wife loves“ he explained. “[I] got up and my finger was sideways.”
The late night host said his wedding ring got caught on a counter, causing his left ring finger to look like “something from a cheap horror movie.”
The condition — which is more common than most people realize — is called “ring avulsion.”
“Don’t google it,” he warned.
Fallon, 40, spent 10 days in the Intensive Care Unit of New York’s Bellevue Hospital following reconstructive surgery that included transferring a vein from his foot to his hand.
“I was going to lose my finger,” he says.
THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JIMMY FALLON airs weeknights at 11:35 PM on NBC.
