It’s hard to believe we live in a world where Simon Cowell isn’t judging someone on television every day.
Luckily, that may soon change.
Howard Stern announced yesterday that he will be stepping down as a judge on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT after four seasons.
“I told them, this is my last season,” he announced on his Sirius-XM radio show. “I am going through my own career evaluation right now. I’m just too f—ing busy.”

While some have speculated that Stern’s announcement may have merely been a public attempt to renegotiate his own contract, it has opened the door to a more likely scenario: that Cowell himself could now make a triumphant return to reality TV.
It makes perfect sense. With AMERICAN IDOL winding down, THE VOICE produced by rival Mark Burnett and THE X FACTOR all but completely forgotten, there are very few high profile vehicles for a star with Cowell’s resume.
And the fact that he just happens to be creator and executive producer of AGT?
Well, it all seems to make for a perfect fit if you ask me.
And here’s one more bonus incentive: Cowell has been trying to spend as much time as possible in New York City, where the show is produced, so he can be near his new baby.
AGT will crown its 10th winner in September.
Expect an official announcement about the future of the judging panel by January.
AMERICA’S GOT TALENT airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays on NBC.
