Things got heated last night on AMERICAN IDOL.
After his Top 7 performance of “Are You Going To Go My Way”, contestant Quentin Alexander got into a momentary tiff with judge Harry Connick, Jr. after it appeared the singer disrespected the competition.
‘This whole thing is wack!” he declared, prompting Connick to snap back: “Quentin, if it is that back, you can always go home. IDOL is paying a lot of money to give you this experience and for you to say that to this hand that is feeding you right now, I think is highly disrespectful.”
Quentin later explained that he meant no disrespect to the show or the judges. He was merely upset to see two of his friends facing elimination.
After the broadcast, he told Zap2it.com:
“We think we’re supposed we’re supposed to censor ourselves and kind of put on this act that everything is okay. In that moment, I couldn’t. It wouldn’t have been genuine. I was not trying to offend anyone or be disrespectful. It was a slew of emotions that I was dealing with and I’m glad I got it out when I did. I’m really glad that Harry responded the way that he did. It gave me an opportunity to talk to America and say ‘That’s not what I meant. I was hurting and I can’t control that.”
Only 6 contestants remain. Will Quentin’s remarks cause him to be the next to go?
AMERICAN IDOL airs Wednesdays and Thursdays on Fox.
