‘SYTYCD’: Will Paula Abdul Replace Mary Murphy?

"I think on my grave it is going to say 'judge' but what I am is a mentor."

Paula Abdul As A Guest Judge On 'So You Think You Can Dance'

Is Paula Abdul about to return to the judges table?

Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, reported today that the former AMERICAN IDOL star is being eyed as a possible replacement for Mary Murphy on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.

Paula — who appeared as a guest judge in 2013 and a permanent judge on the Australian version of the show earlier this year — seemed to hint something big was coming when she attended Fox’s CAUSE FOR PAWS event in Santa Monica on November 22.

The singer-dancer-choreographer told me she would be returning to television “hopefully, really soon” and said the capacity would be similar to the judging roles we have seen her in before “and in other areas as well.”

“I did a lot before being a judge,” she offered with a laugh.   “I think on my grave it is going to say ‘judge’ but what I am is a mentor.  That is what I love being.”

On November 17, we reported that Murphy’s name was conspicuously missing from a network press release about the show’s renewal.

At the time, a Fox spokesperson said:  “This release just focuses on the pickup and new twist.  We always do talent and choreographer announcements later.”

The network declined to offer any further comment today.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE returns this summer on Fox.
