MODERN FAMILY star Sarah Hyland has offered a rare glimpse of how her life might have turned out if she hadn’t scored the acting gig of a lifetime.
“I have always loved psychology,” she told reporters during teleconference today.
“If I had gone to college I would have majored in psychology — maybe even a double major in psychology and business — and a minor in math.”
Such lofty academic dreams would put Sarah, 23, on the opposite end of the educational spectrum from her rebellious, boy-crazy alter ego, Haley Dunphy.
The character has earned her two Teen Choice Awards nominations — including one this year for Choice TV: Female Scene Stealer.
But Sarah insists she is not afraid of being typecast as the less than book-smart type.
“Maybe that is how the public will view me — as someone who would never double major in anything,” she says. “But I don’t think it will hurt my acting career.”
Sarah was also chosen to co-host THE 2014 TEEN CHOICE AWARDS which airs live this Sunday from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
“The Teen Choice Awards are always so much fun to watch and to be at,” she says.
“It was kind of a no-brainer because I knew it was going to fun. [Co-host] Tyler Posey had already signed on and he is a wonderful person. I have worked with him before and I knew it would be a wonderful experience.
THE 2014 TEEN CHOICE AWARDS airs Sunday night, August 10 on Fox.
