‘Modern Family’: Nathan Lane Pitches Spinoff, ‘A Dash Of Pepper’

"They seem to have given some of the ingredients for that in the last season.”

Nathan Lane would love to headline a spinoff of the ABC comedy MODERN FAMILY.

He’s even got the name picked out: A DASH OF PEPPER.

Lane, 58, picked up his third Emmy nomination this season for playing Mitch [Jesse Tyler Ferguson] and Cam’s [Eric Stonestreet] flamboyant friend — and wedding planner — Pepper Saltzman.

“I think it could be fun,” the actor said during a visit to the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills yesterday. “Look, it is worth a lunch isn’t it?”

The Pepper character — known for throwing over the top costume themed parties — was created by MODERN FAMILY Executive Producer Christopher Lloyd and first appeared during season two.

“[Chris] would have to say, ‘I think it is a good idea,’” Lane says.  “But I would be happy to discuss it.  They seem to have given some of the ingredients for that in the last season.”
