‘America’s Got Talent’ Sinks ABC’s ‘Rising Star’

New singing show couldn't even match ratings of canceled series 'Duets'

NBC pulled out the big guns last night to successfully sink a new rival reality show.

A special Sunday night edition of AMERICA’S GOT TALENT trounced all over ABC’s gimmicky new RISING STAR, according to overnight ratings.

AGT — the top rated summer series for almost a decade — pulled in 8 million total viewers.

RISING STAR managed only 5 million.

Making matters worse, the highly promoted (and extremely boring) new singing show, came up about 1.5 million eyeballs short of the network’s last stab at the genre, DUETS, which was canned after one cycle in 2012.

RISING STAR — which allows viewers to vote in real time using special smartphone app — will likely pick up some momentum when it returns against weaker competition this weekend.
