The owners of Amy’s Baking Company were caught completely by surprise when a camera crew from KICHEN NIGHTMARES showed up to film segments for tonight’s season 6 premiere.
“The weren’t aware [former L.A. news reporter Ana Garcia was coming to interview them],” executive producer Arthur Smith has revealed. “She really did just show up — but naturally we had to be allowed in, which they did. So the way you saw it was the way it was.”
(Minus a few expletives that had to be cut from the broadcast, Garcia tells me.)
Amy’s Baking Company became the most talked about episode of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant rescue series, when it first aired last spring.
Owners Amy and Samy Bouzaglo found themselves in the center of a social media firestorm when the show revealed they had been pocketing tips intended for their employees.
Since then they have waged a public war against the foul mouthed chef, even accusing him of sexual harassment in a video posted to YouTube.
“In seasons past we’ve done revisit specials and we’ve gone back to places and there’s actually going to be a revisit special in this season,” Smith told reporters during a media conference call this week.
“But this show caused so much attention for a variety of reasons and we decided to devote more time [to it].”
KITCHEN NIGHTMARES: RETURN TO AMY’S BAKING COMPANY features a recap of the original episode along with never-before-aired footage and Garcia’s explosive interview with Amy and Samy — including the original video they submitted to the show asking for help. (See below)
Gordon hosts the special and provides commentary from a Hollywood soundstage dressed to look like a restaurant.
“The way things were left, with Gordon walking out and it being a very heated departure, we decided that it was best that, Gordon didn’t go [back],” Smith says.
“Nor did he want to go back because, you know, it didn’t end well.”
KITCHEN NIGHTMARES airs Friday nights at 8:00 PM on Fox.
