Clay for Congress?

It could happen.

Former AMERICAN IDOL runner up Clay Aiken is mulling over a run for Congress in North Carolina’s 2nd district, according to a new report.

The Washington Blade is citing anonymous sources that say the gay rights activist (and father of 5 year-old Parker) is “actively considering” a run for the seat currently occupied by Republican Renee Elmers.

Clay — who recently appeared on CELEBRITY APPRENTICE and an episode of LAW & ORDER: SVU — would run as a Democrat, the paper notes.

Aiken has been meeting with both pollsters and political figures including strategist Betsy Conti, who’s worked previously with Al Gore. The filing deadline for the district’s primary is Feb. 28.
