Abby Lee Miller is shaking up her squad for season four of Lifetime’s addictive reality series, DANCE MOMS.
The outspoken matriarch of Pittsburgh’s Abby Lee Dance Company confirmed to me that she has already removed and replaced at least one girl and her mother.
“It is happening as we speak,” she said Friday, during a bus ride to Virginia. “I am looking at the back of the bus and I see new faces and different moms.”
But don’t panic — the dancers and parents featured last season won’t disappear right away.
All will be featured in the first ever DANCE MOMS holiday special, “‘Twas The Fight Before Christmas,” airing Tuesday night at 9:00 PM.
The whole gang is also expected to return for the season four premiere on January 1, with changes being made in the following weeks.
Last month, Melissa Gisoni — the mother of fan favorites Maddie and Mackenzie Ziegler — was skeptical that any changes would be made. “But you really never know with Abby,” she cautioned.
Abby, 47, is “thrilled” with the new lineup, which she called a by-product of “bad parenting.”
“I think some parents aren’t taking responsibility for their children’s training,” she tells me. “They are not at the studio as often as they could be, trying to become better dancers. They are not yearning to be perfect. A dancer looks in the mirror every day for perfection and never achieves it. That is what motivates them. When you are yawning in my face and looking at the clock and rolling your eyes, you don’t want to be there.”
Here’s more of what Abby had to share…
Do you think there will be fallout from fans of the show?
I think there will be. But I think that people who are fans of the kids on the show are fans of the dancing. The reason they loved the kids first and foremost was the dancing. Then they got to know them and became fans. But I can tell you among the fans of the show, they all want to be in the Abby Lee Dance Company. They don’t want to buy a shirt that says “Abby Lee Dance Company.” They want to stand beside the girls and be one of them. So I think they will understand.
