‘Scandal’: ABC Reduces Episode Order By Almost 20 Percent
There will be four less hours of the soapy D.C. drama in season three
Bad news, Gladiators…
The third season of SCANDAL has been reduced by almost 20 percent!
ABC today confirmed it is reducing the number of episodes from 22 to 18 — even as the red hot political soap continues to gain viewers almost every week.
[Last night's episode pulled in 7.4 million viewers, despite tough competition from NBC's ratings winner THE SOUND OF MUSIC.]
So what gives?
It seems the network and producers are having problems working around star Kerry Washington‘s pregnancy.
The actress and her new husband, NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, are expecting their first child in late March/early April.
There are only so many ways to show the stylish Olivia Pope in loose fitting clothes, and while she could always get into some kind of accident and be confined to a hospital bed (as happens frequently in these situations), it seems the network and creator Shonda Rhimes didn’t want to take the lazy way out.
No official word from NBC when the season finale will air.
We will keep you up to date.
