Beloved Character Was Killed Off And 'Replaced' In The Same Episode
FAMILY GUY fans are barking mad over the death of martini-swilling pooch Brian Griffin.
The beloved character, voiced by series creator Seth MacFarlane, was killed off in a shocking hit and run car accident Sunday night.
Within hours, a petition demanding his return had sprung up online. As of Monday morning nearly 2,000 fans had lent their support.
“Brian Griffin was an important part of our viewing experience,” fan Aaron Thompson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama wrote. “He added a witty and sophisticated element to the show. Family Guy and Fox Broadcasting will lose viewers if Brian Griffin is not brought back to the show.”
Makers of the long-running animated hit were not expecting any backlash from viewers.
“[They are] smart enough and have been loyal to our show for long enough to know that they can trust us,” producer and writer Steve Callaghan told EOnline, adding: “It seemed more in the realm of a reality that a dog would get hit by a car, than if one of the kids died. As much as we love Brian, and as much as everyone loves their pets, we felt it would be more traumatic to lose one of the kids, rather than the family pet.”
MacFarlane, he said, came up with the idea for the Griffin family to replace Brian with another dog named Vinny (voiced by SOPRANOS alum Tony Sirico) who “doesn’t let Stewie get away with any crap.”
