‘X Factor’: What Inspired Rachel Potter’s ‘Emotional’ Performance?

Singer Says She Was Thinking Of An Ex-Boyfriend

Rachel Potter didn’t have to go far to find inspiration for her roof-raising performance of the Heart classic “Alone.”

“I had a really bad breakup about a year ago that I was just sittin’ in the middle of when I was singin’ that song,” she told me after receiving rave reviews from all four judges.

“It is a good way to connect.  It is a good way to get to an emotional place with it and deliver the song in a way that it is meant to be sung.  I hope that I conveyed as much as I could of that.”

Rachel, 29, admits she had a bit of an advantage — since it isn’t the first time she has tackled the tune.

“It’s one of my favorites and one of my karaoke go-tos,” she says.  In fact when I was doing musical theater in New York and trying to work my way up to Broadway, I sang it in a lot of cabarets and gay bars.”
