As if there weren’t already enough singing shows on TV…
Now comes word that NBC (fresh out of original ideas, apparently) is prepping a kiddie version of THE VOICE.
Sources close to this completely terrible idea tell me that “we are hoping (to begin production) by the end of the year.”
Per my story in Monday’s New York Post:
Casting calls were announced last week in New York, L.A. and Dallas for singers eight to 14 year-olds.
But the network put the project on hold just days later.
The plan, insiders say, is to film the series at the same time — and on the same stage — as the adult contest.
“There wasn’t enough time to get it together (for the upcoming fifth cycle),” a source close to the production tells us.
THE VOICE KIDS has already been a hit in Germany, Holland and Finland.
A bilingual version of the show will debut on NBC-owned Spanish network Telemundo in May.
AMERICAN JUNIORS, a kids version of “American Idol,” debuted in 2003 and was canceled after one season due to low ratings.
Lucy Hale of the ABC Family series PRETTY LITTLE LIARS was among the top 10 finalists.
